Ali Hashem Daily Work

Artist Statement

Hormuz Island is often seen through its extraordinary colors, especially the red ocher that has made the island visually famous. But behind that beauty is a daily rhythm of hard physical labor. The red soil is extracted, carried, processed, and sold, moving from the bodies of workers into industries such as paint, ceramics, cosmetics, and local food traditions.

Ali Hashem Daily Work looks at this gap between the image of a beautiful island and the reality of the people who work inside it. The series follows laborers whose days are marked by dust, heat, repetition, low income, and limited safety facilities. Rather than romanticizing the landscape, the project asks the viewer to stay with the human cost of extraction and to see the workers as central to the story of Hormuz.
