Hemangiomas
An intimate record of Reza's diagnosis, surgery, and recovery, photographed inside the limits of hospital life.
Artist Statement
Hemangiomas began inside a family crisis. After returning from football practice, Reza felt severe pain in his lower back. Medical scans later showed a hemangioma in the L3 vertebra, with fracture and pressure toward the spinal canal. The diagnosis changed the family's daily life at once, taking them from Bandar Abbas to Tehran for treatment, surgery, and recovery.
Because professional cameras were not allowed in the hospital, the work was made with a mobile phone. That limitation became part of the language of the project. The images are close, quiet, and immediate, shaped by waiting rooms, medical uncertainty, family care, and the fragile hope that follows treatment. The series is both a personal record and a documentary account of illness, fear, tenderness, and the ordinary courage required to move through a medical journey.
